DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition (AESE) Webinar – Why You Should Consider It

Posted by Kim May on March 26, 2012 under Authorized Training Partner, DB2 for Linux Unix Windows, DB2 Gold Consultants, Frank Fillmore, IBM Champion, Optim. Tags: , , , , , , , , .

IBM introduced the DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edtion (AESE) in late 2010, bundling Optim tools, compression and replication for high availability and disaster recovery in with the features in DB2 Enterprise Server Edition.  Current DB2 customers are offered several upgrade options, making AESE an affordable, comprehensive database solution and an alternative to going a la carte.

In this presentation DB2 Gold Consultant and IBM Champion Frank C. Fillmore, Jr., will explain what each of the features included in the AESE bundle is and what functionality they deliver.  Using customer examples, Frank will analyze the benefits of moving to AESE for each organization and how they evaluated the options and reached a decision.  Finally Frank will explain how to determine the upgrade path for your organization and what you can do immediately to get an accurate estimate of the cost and best time to move to AESE.    For details on the presentation click, “Read More”.

Finding the DB2 Mid Market – First of a Series

I decided to blog on my efforts to get engaged with Mid Market Information Management customers in 2012, as IBM is encouraging Business Partners like The Fillmore Group to support the Mid Market while they focus on larger accounts.  IBM is a huge organization, and as seems natural, they like to work with other huge organizations.  As demonstrated by the success of that 35-year-old tech start-up from Redmond, small and mid-sized businesses often grow, and share their growth with their vendors.  However, IBM is opting to stay focused on their core – integrated and aligned and named accounts – and delegating Mid Market customer support to Business Partners.

Makes sense, right?  Sure!  So then next…what if you are an IBM Business Partner that WANTS to work with Mid Market Information Management customers?  What if you are a Mid Market IBM Information Management customer that WANTS to work with a Business Partner?  How do you find each other?  How do you determine if you have the right chemistry?  It’s not easy. Buying DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition

The Fillmore Group had the pleasure of working with the IBM New York Metro team on a DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition upgrade and purchase for an existing DB2 ESE customer and I am working on the IBM “Winwire” document that gets circulated internally at IBM about our successful teaming.  The challenge for me is this:  how do I make it sound difficult?  Buying DB2 AESE made perfect sense for the customer from a strategic/technical perspective, and the IBM pricing was amazing.  Read More…

DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition (AESE): How to Get It

My colleague, Kim May, spent many hours putting together a presentation on the components and features included in the new DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition (AESE).  Moreover, she has included multiple upgrade scenarios showing how the DB2 components that you currently license will affect upgrade licensing costs for AESE.  If you missed our webcast yesterday, Kim is planning a reprise in the next several weeks.  In the meantime, here’s the presentation materials.  Contact Kim (kim.may@thefillmoregroup.com; 443-956-0288) with questions or take her up on her free, no obligation offer of a AESE software licensing quote.

DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition (AESE) Available October 22

Posted by Frank Fillmore on October 7, 2010 under DB2 for Linux Unix Windows, Q-Replication. Tags: , .

IBM’s flagship relational database for distributed platforms, DB2, has been packaged in Workgroup and Enterprise editions for several past versions.  Joining them at the high end is DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition (AESE).  The big news is that many useful tools and capabilities are bundled together in AESE:

·         DB2 Storage Optimization Feature

·         DB2 Performance Optimization Feature

·         Optim Performance Manager

·         InfoSphere Federation Server (limited use)

·         InfoSphere Replication Server (limited use)

·         Optim Development Studio

·         DB2 Advanced Access Control Feature

The pricing is very aggressive, so if you are using Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) and paying separately for any of these additional features, an upgrade to AESE might be an attractive option.  Click on the link below for a chart of feature/functionality for each DB2 bundle.
